Alpena Soccer Grabs 1-0 Win Over Cadillac

ALPENA, MI- When you do not let the ball go in the net, it is impossible to lose.  The Alpena Girls Soccer team is using that strategy very well. All five of the teams wins have come via the shutout, the most impressive being a 1-0 win over Big North Conference rival Cadillac.

When you have two talented defensive units eliminating just about every scoring chance, it is going to take just one good strike to win it. Alpena got it in the 50th minute. Sophomore Isabelle Kocan delivered the strike of the day as she buried a left footed free kick from about 25 yards out to give Alpena a 1-0 lead.

After giving her team the lead, Kocan and the rest of the Wildcats defense shut it down for the rest of the afternoon.  Cadillac rarely threatened goalie Faith Henskii and the Wildcats grabbed their first conference win and fifth shutout of the season.

The Wildcats return to the field tomorrow for a matchup with Traverse City West.
