Alpena Salvation Army Wraps Up Christmas Work

The Salvation Army in Alpena is wrapping up their Christmas work, and they’ve released some nearly final numbers of their annual fundraiser.

They are still taking donations for the next couple of weeks, but as of now, they sit at around $130,000 dollars of their $160,000. They will continue to take donations for the rest of this year, as this last week of the year is their ‘end of the year giving’. They had a successful toy drive as well, as they helped what they believed to be over 150 families, which they believe rounds out to almost 300 children. People also donated hats and gloves for kids who may need them.

“Toys are a little more expensive than they used to be, everything is a little bit more expensive this year, so it was really good to have so many people just know that there are people out there that are struggling worse than they are, and to give out of their heart,” says Major Prezza Morrison.

Now that they are planning on wrapping up their holiday season, the Salvation Army expects to go back to a normal schedule.

“We get back to the normal ways of doing our programs, right now we’re working on some emergency disaster items that are coming up, we have our canteen that goes out and serves during fires, a lot of our volunteers are aging out, and we really need people to come alongside us and help us run our canteen during our disasters that we have,” she said.
