Alpena Salvation Army Applications For Christmas Assistance Start Tuesday, 11/7

The holiday season is a time for cheer, but for many families, it can be stressful to make ends meet. To help with this, the Alpena Salvation Army is launching their annual application for families to receive aid. Major Prezza Morrison, corps officer and pastor for the Alpena Salvation Army said, “And this where, again, we’re gathering those who look at Christmas and they’re going like “oh no, I don’t know if I will be able to give the Christmas I want to for my family or my children.”

Applicants will have a chance to provide their families with a great holiday season.”They’re applying for the Christmas assistance that we give up, which is the toy shop,
said Morrison. “They get to pick toys up for their children, and our food, so they a great Christmas meal.”

Interested applicants can sign up this week on Tuesday, November 7, from 10 am to 2 pm, Wednesday, November 8 from 1 pm to 5pm and Thursday, November 9 from 11 am to 3pm. Applicants must bring a photo ID with an Alpena County address, some form of ID for all others in the household, and proof of all income in the household. The program serves roughly 200 families per year.

If you are a community member looking to contribute, there will soon be angel trees at WAL MART and other retailers where you can buy a toy to be donated to a family in need. “And if you want to, again, you can contact the Salvation Army; we’d love to have angels that we can put on the tree for people in our office to purchase gifts for,” said Morrison. “Or again, you can just purchase the gifts and bring the items down here for us, and any food items too; we’re always looking for food items to be donated to put in the baskets too.”
