Alpena hosts Rhode Island planes
ALPENA, Mich. — Alpena’s playing emergency host to some military equipment this week.
Airmen from Rhode Island flew five cargo planes to the Combat Readiness Training Center on Saturday. The Rhode Island National Guard decided to evacuate the $14 million planes to prevent damage from the slow–moving Hurricance Henri.
Colonel James Rossi said the CRTC is a popular choice for evacuations because of its ample ramp space.
Given how slowly the hurricane is traveling, it’s currently unknown when the planes can return home safely.
