Alpena gets their revenge against Traverse City Central with an upset win 60-55

ALPENA, MI – The Alpena boys basketball squad have had troubles with their Big North matches as of late. They took a difficult loss to Cadillac back on Friday and back in late January, the Wildcats came up just six points short of taking down Traverse City Central. Alpena would get a rematch at the Trojans at home, and a win in this game is paramount in order for the guys to work their way back up the rankings.

The crowd was rocking tonight hoping for Alpena to pull off a home upset against the second ranked team in the conference. First up, Cooper Bright continuing to shine in tough situations. He pulls up from mid range and sinks the deuce for the Wildcats.

Tucker Bright now sends it to cooper. He sends it straight to Ryan Voltz wide open in the paint, and he sinks the easy layup on that play. Voltz finished with nine points.

Now the Trojans with it. Anthony Ribel down in the post fights in to take a jumper up close and he’s gets that one to fall.

Devin Lamay with it for Alpena. Moving around, he finds Tucker who finds his brother Cooper. He’ll try for the corner three and nails that one over the defender.

The Wildcats moving the ball quickly now. Votlz finds Tucker Bright open down low. There’s a quick layup for Tucker, who got a cool 14 points tonight.

Back with it for Traverse City Central, it’s Anthony Ribel. He’s got the lane to drive straight to the cup and lay it up and in for Central. He led the team with 25 points.

Now quickly, Lamey finds a wide open Cooper Bright. He tries another corner three for the Wildcats. He drains it yet again, leading the team with a whopping 29 points.

Ribel for the Trojans now. He’s gonna step through traffic and go up and under for the slick layup. The Trojans remained on Alpena’s heels for nearly the entire game.

Cooper Bright finds his brother up top. Tucker goes through traffic down low as well and makes the layup. Travese City Central would have to foul to stay in the game late, but the Wildcats would just hold out and they would be the one’s celebrating tonight.

Alpena clamped down and did what needed to be done and got the upset home win over Traverse City Central. Final score is 60–55. Alpena will be back on the road for Friday when they get another Big North matchup against Petoskey.
