Alpena Downtown Development Authority update

ALPENA, Mich. –This afternoon the Alpena Downtown Development Authority held their monthly meeting where they discussed the annual chili chowder cook off , boundary expansion, and a new mural in Alpena.

The DDA decided to cancel the 2020 cook off due to safety concerns around COVID–19.

They are looking at smaller fall events that they could potentially host.

Boundary expansion which generates tax revenue was another topic discussed.

The last expansion took place in 2003 and today they began talks to see which properties would be considered a part of downtown.

Also in downtown, the mural project at Salon 125 is being well received.

According to Executive Director, Anne Gentry, the feedback has been nothing but positive.

Gentry said the next mural project will be at the thunder bay warehouse and is set to begin August 23rd through August 28th.
