Alpena DDA opens applications for Fresh Waves Mural Project

ALPENA, Mich. – Alpena’s Downtown Development Authority has opened applications for its Fresh Waves Mural Project.

This year chosen artist will create free standing structures for the Alpena Boat Harbor.

The DDA said the goal of past, present and future murals is to help make the city unique.

Alpena DDA Executive Director Anne Gentry said now the focus is on the boat harbor.

“This year we wanted to add more to the boat harbor, since it’s been a big focus of the city moving forward,” said Gentry. “How can we revitalize that area, make it more appealing? So we thought let’s change it up this year, let’s do these free standing structures.”

Gentry said applicants can submit up to 4 concepts.

Applications are due by May 25, but artwork should be show ready by Mid–July. Gentry said she hopes some of the work will be displayed during Alpena’s Brown Trout Festival.
