This Weekend, Alpena County 4-H Council and Michigan University extension program is having a box sled race from 11am-2pm at the Caledonia public downhill sledding park off of Spruce road.

“We let the kids do kind of a stem building activity, so it’s where you are going to take cardboard and other recyclable materials and create a sled.” said Michelle Person, Alpena County 4-H program coordinator.

This event is free of charge and all ages are welcome to register to participate.

“We then mark out for the kids who was the fastest, who was the slowest, whose sled went the farthest, whose didn’t, whose might’ve been an epic fail. We line up the sleds at the beginning and kind of do a voting on whose the favorite is” said Person.

There will be multiple trophies given out at the event and regular sleds will also be available for public use for those who might not have one. There will be free food, hot chocolate and a campfire.

If you’re interested in attending this event, you can go on the Alpena County 4-H Council Facebook page to find out how to register or call their office at 989-255-8450 for more details.
