The Alpena Civic Theater is preparing for their new show, Blithe Spirit. “It’s hilarious, it’s a wonderful story, and all of the folks in it are wonderful actors, some of them tremendous character actors,” said Bill Powell, assistant director of Blithe Spirit.

The show will premiere next week on October 19th and everyone is in high spirits. “It’s called Blithe Spirit; the author is Noel Coward,” said Powell. “Some folks will recognize that name, very popular author, comedy, witty comedy, a lot of it is rather dry British wit, but all very good, well delivered.”

Directed by Lucas Moquin, the play follows an author named Charles, who unintentionally brings his late ex–wife back during a séance, and can’t figure out how to send her back. The comedy is appropriate for the whole family. “It is sort of a holiday treat because the holiday of spirits and spooks and what have you, we present to you a ghost story,” said Powell.

Show dates align perfectly with Halloween–time and kick start the theater’s season. “The box office is currently open, we are open weekdays from 3–6pm,” said Powell. “ Please call 989–354–3624 and the folks in the box office will set you up. If you can’t call between those hours, just leave a message, leave your phone number, we’ll call you back.”

The theater has been producing plays since 1956 with an all–volunteer community cast and crew. “This is the coolest theater,” said Powell. “If you haven’t been here, you really need to take the opportunity. It’s wonderful live entertainment and very reasonably priced. Bring everybody; it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
