Alpena City Council meeting update

ALPENA, Mich. — At Tuesday’s Alpena City Council meeting items discussed were the auditors presentation on the financial report, modifications at the Evergreen Cemetery, and the flashing light on Second and Miller Street.

An auditors presentation was given on the annual financial report.  According to Mayor Matt Waligora, the city has been in good standing for approximately 29 years.  They have been awarded a certificate of excellence for reporting which Waligora said is great news for the city of Alpena.  Waligora added that they are stewards of the taxpayers funds and the good report builds their trust with the community.

Also discussed were the modifications made to the Evergreen Cemetery.  They are now accepting different materials onto headstones such as some metals, stainless steel or bronze.  The cemetery is also allowing some motorcycles and skateboards to come on the grounds as they are now seen as transportation.

Lastly, the council acknowledged the flashing light on Second Street and Miller Street but tabled this item until the next meeting.
