Alpena Childcare & Development Center Hosts Basketball Tournament

Hoops for the Alpena Childcare and Development Center will take place this weekend, a 3–on–3 basketball tournament for third grade age students all the way up to twelfth grade.

There is also a co–ed adult league, and it is $100 per team to join. All proceeds go towards the childcare center’s efforts to increase their preschool program.

“We just wanted to do a fundraiser that was active with parents and kids alike,” said Julianne Cordes, a member of the Fundraising Committee for the Alpena Childcare & Development Center.  “We do have a co–ed bracket, so parents, anybody over 18 can join in too, and we just wanted something for the kids and the parents to come together to have a little competition.”

Childcare is something the northeast Michigan area desperately needs and the new preschool rooms at the childcare center will be able to take on 50 new enrollees.

“We just have a really strong program here at ACDC, and we value that early education, and we want to expand that and open that up to more families in our community,” said Cordes.

There are already local businesses that have sponsored courts at Bay View Park, and Saturday should be a fun way to raise money for a service the area needs.

“We’ve had really good support in the community,” said Cordes. “Multiple businesses step up to sponsor courts, also some personal sponsors as well, and we just want to thank them for their commitment to our program.”

Games tip off at 9 am on Saturday, June 17th, and team registrations are due by Thursday, June 15th.
