Alcona Defeats Alpena in Double OT Thriller

HARRISVILLE, MI- High school basketball games are 32 minutes. But that just was not going to be enough for the Alpena and Alcona Girls Basketball teams to declare a winner. They went for 40.

It took four quarters and two overtimes before the Alcona Tigers took down Alpena by a 49-48 final.

The Tigers and Wildcats battled all night with neither team leading by more than six. Alcona looked like they had the game won in regulation when Kelsey Hansen knocked down a jump shot with 20 seconds left to give the Tigers a 40-38 lead. With five seconds left Avery Dubey missed a go ahead three, but Alpena sophomore Kiera Prue was there for the put back that forced overtime.

In OT with Alcona leading by two the Wildcats tied the game again as Reese Wisniewski found an open Faith Dragiewicz under the basket who scored with 10 seconds left to force a second overtime.

In double OT the Tigers led by three when Reaghan Fitzpatrick scored with 25 seconds left to trim the deficit to one. After two Alcona misses at the line it would be Wisniewski who had a chance to win it, but her shot fell off the rim and the buzzer sounded to seal the Tiger win.
