AHS administrators receive a surprise check from MCAN

ALPENA, Mich. — Three administrators at Alpena high school received a nice surprise as they were given a check from the Michigan College Access Network.

An unexpected check was received in the amount of $10,000.  The check came from MCAN which is an organization that helps propel students toward their college journey.  MCAN’s Executive Director, Ryan Fewins–Bliss, said they wanted to honor those who had been involved with the organization since its inception.

Educators expressed their gratitude after receiving the funds and Early College Coordinator, Lee Fitzpatrick, revealed plans of how the monies will be utilized.

MCAN is an organization providing access to post-secondary opportunities for low–income students, students of color and first–generation college–going students.

Fitzpatrick said Alpena has an incredibly innovative school district and was the clear winner of this check.
