ACC students win statewide competition
ALPENA, Mich. — Students in Alpena Community College’s Machine and Welding Program won a statewide competition despite the challenges they faced.
The Skills USA statewide competition was held virtually this year. Instructor Andrew Paad said students participated in three different competitions but not without the challenge of interruptions due to COVID making the team competitions the most difficult.
Gold Medal winner Taylor Murray said she was not sure what to expect as a woman in a male dominated program. Murray said the men in her class were very helpful and pushed her to do better.
Paad said they won eight gold medals two silver medals and a statesman award. The winners of the gold medal will move on and represent the state at the national level in June.
