ALPENA, Mich. — Northeast’s Michigan’s Habitat for Humanity just received a hefty grant.

The Alpena County Older Persons Committee awarded the non–profit $81,000 dollars to help them provide critical home repairs for county residents. The funds will cover costs for projects helping senior, low–income homeowners who may struggle large–scale home maintenance.

Examples include plumbing fixes, roof repairs, furnace installation, and more. Critical Repairs Coordinator Kristen Lesage says she’s thankful for the grant.

“We have a big county that’s low-income. The need is there so we have to help. We serviced 100 families last year. That’s a fraction of what needs to be done.”

Those looking for help from this program must be 62 years or older with an income less than 60% of the area’s average.

You can find applications online or call the habitat office to learn more. Their number is (989) 354-5555.
