The Hillman Lions Club Arranges A Pop Up Mobile Food Pantry To Feed Surrounding Area Residents.

The Hillman Lions club gave organized a mobile pop up pantry to give free food items to help feed the community.

“Typically, we’ll have between a hundred and seventy and two hundred families that are picked up for and around 550 to four hundred people that they– that they when they go through. People are allowed to pick up for multiple families so if they have neighbors or family members or something, they can– they can pick them up and we load their car up with what the food bank of East Michigan sends us” said Barb Durflinger, Co-chair of the Hillman Lions Club.

The pop up pantry gave out a variety of items such as:potatoes, fruits, milk and salmon on a first come, first serve basis.

“Our goal every month or every time we do this, is to make sure we can get rid of everything we have, you know give away all the food we can so as the line starts to get down, they may get more or less depending on what we have left” said Carleen Klein, Co-chair of the Hillman Lions club.

The mobile popup pantry occurs on the first and third Wednesday of every month at the Patchwood Plaza.

“As long as our funds hold out right now, we’re good through January, to January” said Klein.

“I’m good for this year, but after that, then we’ll have to– have to do more fundraising to be able to keep them going” said Durflinger.

The next mobile pop up pantry will take place on April third. The Hillman Lions club thanks everyone in the community for their support. if you want to volunteer to help out the hillman lions club or donate to their organization, you can call 989–742–2790 for further information.
