Workers wanted, but where are the workers?
ALPENA, Mich. — America’s housing market is breaking records month over month with more buyers than inventory. It’s a slightly different story when it comes to the job market. Help wanted signs are everywhere, but many employers report having difficulty filling open positions. Depending on who you ask, there’s a couple reasons why.
“The government has made it easy for people to sit at home,” said Congressman Jack Bergman who represents Michigan’s 1st District. “We need the governor in Michigan to do like so many other governors and say no more extra unemployment benefits for you. It’s time for you to go back to work,” he said.
Business strategist Mike Zeller said he believes the reason is not so cut and dry. He said following the pandemic, many people are reevaluating work and pursuing careers and opportunities that are more meaningful.
