Why your next job interview may be with a robot

ALPENA, Mich.  — The use of artificial intelligence or AI is becoming increasingly common among hiring managers, especially those in fortune 500 companies.  Candidates may be asked to complete video interviews or online tests without knowing that an algorithm is scoring their application.

Casey Hasten, director of recruiting for VIP said it’s important for candidates to practice before a video interview.

“There is so much going on in the background like monitoring your facial expressions,” said Hasten.  They call them micro expressions.  They feel they can get an idea of your personality and compare that to everyone else who has been analyzed,” she said.

Hasten said it’s best to tailor your resume for the job you are applying.  Cookie-cutter resumes don’t work she cautioned.

“They’re looking for those key words in your resume and the percentage of times those words are used,” she said.

Hasten recommends job seekers use Jobscan.com to test whether their resume is up to par and will pass the algorithm.

Hasten also recommends that candidates shut down their social media accounts while on an active job search.
