United Way implements 21-day equity challenge

ALPENA, Mich. — In light of the many protests and racial tensions that continue to take place throughout the country, United Way has implemented a 21–Day Equity Challenge to help confront racism.

The challenge is put in place to help individuals to take it upon themselves to deepen their understanding of, and confront racism.

This interactive digital resource provides participants with a short reading, video or audio file for 10 to 15 minutes each day.

Alpena resident Jessica Luther, thought this would be a good way to examine her own biases living in an area that is not so diverse.

Luther is looking forward to the upcoming challenge and is already providing suggested readings for those interested.

Department head of the George N. Fletcher Public Library, Don La Barre, participated in a previous 21–Day Equity Challenge and shared with us what he got out of it.
