Today is Giving Tuesday
ALPENA, Mich– As we recover from Black Friday weekend shopping, we have a chance to support our local communities.
The Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan website has kicked off its annual Giving Tuesday competition.
Over 50 non–profits across nine counties are taking part in this year’s event.
As of 12:00 A.M, Northeast Michigan residents can go to the CFNEM website to donate to their favorite non–profits over a 24–hour period.
CFNEM spokesperson Christine Hitch said the event refocuses people on their community after a hectic weekend of shopping.
“Giving Tuesday always comes the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. So you’ve got Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday, and then after that spending we have an opportunity to give, and to give back locally. At times like this we make such a big impact with our donations, particularly when we give together. ”
People can donate to more than one non–profit.
Whichever non–profit earns the most donations will win a trophy named “Grant, the Golden Goose.”
