The Lady Tigers battle ends with Alcona holding off Hillman 50-47

HILLMAN, MI – The Alcona Tigers and the Hillman Tigers went head-to-head tonight in girls basketball. Alcona currently leads the North Star League Big Dipper conference while the Hillman Tigers sit in second place in the Little Dipper, behind the undefeated Posen Vikings. Alcona also is riding a six game winning streak heading into this game and already has one win over Hillman back in December. Now Hillman is on a winning streak of their own with four straight victories, so which one of these Tigers would pull away with the victory?

Starting things off the game was pretty tightly contested. Over to Hillman first to start things out. McKenna Klein finds Nicole Barbeau in the paint who drives in and rise up for the tough layup for two.

Moving over to Alcona who’s on the fast break. Kelsey Hansen takes it to the house herself, goes for the layup with her left hand and sinks it.

Now Emma Travis finds Carmen Dellar on the wing. Dellar quickly moves through the defense, cuts through Klein and makes the layup for Alcona. Carmen finished with 11 while Emma Travis got that assist and finished with 17.

Hillman passing it around now. Elsie Flaugher, the Freshmen, jacks up a three-pointer for her Tigers and that one drops for Elsie.

Now a Hillman fast break. Nicole makes the pass to Saige Flaugher this time. Saige quickly drives in and gets the layup.

She came alive in the third quarter for Hillman, really helping them fight back from their deficit in the second quarter. Nicole finds Saige against for another layup try and it falls again.

Hillman nearly came back into the game late, but the Alcona Tigers would just pull away in this one, as Kelsey Hansen tries the close layup and it bounces on the rim a bunch before falling in for two.

That’s now seven straight wins for Alcona as they get the road win, beating Hillman 50–47. Hillman can’t rest though as they face the top Little Dipper team in Posen tomorrow night while Alcona finishes up their road trip Friday against Ogemaw Heights.
