Many mourn passing of beloved Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon
DETROIT, Mich. — Sad news out of Wayne County, Michigan…. Beloved Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon died Thursday, Dec. 17 following complications from COVID-19. Sheriff Napoleon announced he was positive for COVID-19 in mid-November.
A native of Detroit, Napoleon was appointed Wayne County Sheriff in 2009 and was re-elected in 2012 and again in 2020. Many people, including Governor Gretchen Whitmer have been moved by his passing.
“In a matter of three weeks, he went from testing positive to being hospitalized to being put on a ventilator, and passing away, and my heart hurts,” said Whitmer.
Sheriff Napoleon was 65-years-old.
