Male’s Grocery has grand re-opening
ALPENA, Mich.– After a long year and a half of work, Male’s Grocery on Long Rapids Road has re–opened.
Founded in 1870 and purchased by Albert Male in 1906, the North Branch House has been passed down through multiple generations until its closing in 2015. In 2019, Jane Male teamed up with her mother to purchase and renovate the building.
It’s clear their hard work paid off. The original wood work and saloon bar have been restored and integrated with modern food offerings.
The grand opening was supplemented with tents from the maple ridge market, all selling their wares in celebration. Jane says that this local focus is why she decided to purchase the store.
“Alpena has seen a revitalization in appreciation for its historic buildings. And a lot of farmers and artisans have come to Alpena or have opened new businesses. So we are partnering with ‘Taste the Local Difference’ to bring in and connect us to a larger network of folks in Michigan and beyond.”
Given that parking for attendees spilled over onto the shoulder of the road, it certainly seems the community’s excited for this iconic store’s return.
