City of Alpena accepting applications for council vacancy

ALPENA, Mich. — Applications for the vacancy on Alpena City Council are now available.  Interested candidates an pick up an application from the Clerk’s office or visit the city’s website. The vacancy was created by the resignation of Councilwoman Amber Hess, which is effective Aug. 20.

The Municipal Council will have 30 days to fill the vacancy through appointment, which will be effective until a new council member is sworn in at the first council meeting in January 2022.

Applicants must meet the following criteria for consideration:

•  Must be 18 years or older
• Must be a US Citizen
• May not be in default to the City, school district, County, or other municipal corporaƟon
  Must be registered to vote in the City
• Must be a resident of the City for at least one (1) year

All completed applications must be submitted to the Clerk’s office by 4 p.m. on September 1, 2021.
