“Choose your own STEAM Adventure” kicks off in downtown Alpena.

ALPENA, Mich.– The Alpena County Library and downtown Alpena’s S.T.E.A.M. collaboration kicked off Thursday.

Thursday was the official start of the “choose your own steam adventure” activity.

Participants start at the Parallel 45 bookstore, with the first 48 receiving a free backpack filled with the tools they need.

There, they start to read and play through a written scenario to find their grandfather.

Head of public services at the library, Christina Markowski, has a tease of some of the learning activities.

“Throughout the whole adventure, you’ll have challenges, or STEAM activities to complete. My favorite one is creating a balloon rocket with a string, a straw, and a balloon. Another one is making a butterfly, and it’s a moveable butterfly.”

S.T.E.A.M. stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics.

Markowski actually wrote the story herself, and included three possible endings which can be found at different businesses in downtown Alpena as players make their choices. The event is for all ages and runs until November 1.
