Bright skies Friday through the weekend; Chilly late Friday night to early Saturday

A cold front brought strong, gusty winds to Northern Michigan this morning and afternoon. Peak wind gusts were clocked at 45-55 mph throughout the area. Alpena airport had a wind gust of 54 mph in the late-morning.

Prior to the cold front passing through Northeast Michigan, the high temperature reached 61 degrees in Alpena. The temperature in Detroit got up to 70 degrees. But notice the colder temperatures over the Upper Peninsula, where the high was only 38 degrees in Houghton, Michigan. That cooler air is heading in our direction.

High temperatures will be in the upper 30s to around 40 degrees Friday. Then temperatures will drop to the teens late Friday night to early Saturday, so the weekend will begin with chilly temperatures. Those temperatures will rise substantially Saturday afternoon, heading up to highs around 50 degrees. Then Sunday and Monday are looking colder with highs in the 30s.

Friday: Mostly sunny, breeze with winds from the northwest at 15-20 mph. Early-morning temperatures will begin in the upper 20s. Afternoon highs will reach about 39 degrees. Evening temperatures will cool to the 20s.

Saturday: Sunny, a cool start. Predawn temperatures will drop to near 15 degrees. Temperatures will rise to the middle/upper 30s during the late-morning. Afternoon highs will get up to around 50 degrees. Evening temperatures will be going into the 40s.

Sunday: Mostly sunny. Early-morning temperatures will be in the upper 20s. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 30s. Evening temperatures will head into the 20s.

Also, Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday at 2 a.m. Remember to turn clocks forward 1 hour Saturday night. Following the clock change, sunrise will become shortly before 8 a.m. and daylight will last until a little after 7:30 p.m.
