Cold start to Saturday, a sunny weekend ahead

High temperatures Friday reached 39 degrees in Alpena, chilly in the Upper Peninsula at 29 degrees in Ironwood, Michigan and warmer to our southwest with 48 degrees in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Temperatures will become chilly overnight, heading down to the teens. Then a warm afternoon will be on the way Saturday.

Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday at 2 a.m. Remember to turn clocks forward one hour Saturday night. Following the clock change, sunrise will become shortly before 8 a.m. and daylight will last until a little after 7:30 p.m.

Saturday: Sunny and cold early. Predawn temperatures will drop to about 14 degrees. Temperatures will rise to the middle/upper 30s by the late-morning. Afternoon highs will get up to around 50 degrees. Evening temperatures will go into the 40s and upper 30s.

Sunday: Sunny with a cooler afternoon. Early-morning temperatures will begin in the upper 20s. Afternoon highs will reach only about 36 degrees. Evening temperatures will cool to the 20s.

Monday: Partly cloudy. Early-morning temperatures will head down to near 16 degrees. Late-morning temperatures will be in the lower/middle 20s. Afternoon highs will be close to 32 degrees. Evening temperatures will head into the 20s.
