Winter begins Saturday night but the temperatures this weekend will not feel wintry

High temperatures today reached the lower 30s in Northeast Michigan. Temperatures above the freezing mark are on our doorstep. Warmer temperatures shown by the shades of green will move into our area this weekend.

Low temperatures will cool to about 24 degrees in Alpena by early Saturday. Mostly cloudy skies will persist overnight with light winds.

The weekend will be brighter than the past few days. For Saturday, we’ll see a mix of sun and clouds. Morning temperatures will be in the upper 20s. Afternoon highs will reach about 38 degrees with a light breeze from the southwest.

Winter begins Saturday at 11:19 p.m., but the temperatures will be warmer than normal for the first day of winter. High temperatures Sunday will warm to about 43 degrees and partly cloudy skies are expected. Temperatures will be similar on Monday with a mix of sun and clouds. Temperatures will become a bit cooler for Christmas and skies will become cloudy Tuesday and Wednesday.
