Flurries Wednesday; Turning milder late-week

High temperatures Tuesday reached 24 degrees in Alpena, 27 degrees in Saginaw, Michigan and only 19 degrees in Marquette, Michigan — an overall chilly day. Especially by Friday, winds out of the south will bring some warmer temperatures to our area.

It’s a cloudy scene across much of Northern Michigan. Mostly cloudy skies are in the forecast for the next few days. Nationwide, the next major snowstorm is gaining strength in the southern Plains — but it will not affect Michigan.

Winter Storm Warnings (shown in pink) extend from the Virginia-North Carolina border, through most of Pennsylvania and over to Boston. Many places in the pink area are expecting over a foot of snow Wednesday-Thursday. That all stays well southeast of Michigan.

Around Northeast Michigan: Light winds from the east could generate some lake effect flurries off of Lake Huron. The chance of flurries will begin in the morning and continue just about all day, but these flurries will be hit and miss. Notice that the chances of flurries don’t get any higher than medium — definitely not an all day snowfall, but a few flurries from time to time are possible much of the day. Snowfall amounts should remain light, less than 1 inch.

Wednesday: A chance of flurries. Early-morning temperatures will be near 20 degrees. Afternoon highs will reach close to 29 degrees. Evening temperatures will be in the middle 20s.
Thursday: Mostly cloudy with a milder morning. Early-morning temperatures will be in the middle 20s. Afternoon highs will climb to about 31 degrees. Evening temperatures will be in the middle 20s.
Friday: Warmer afternoon temperatures with mostly cloudy skies. Predawn temperatures will begin in the upper teens. Late-morning temperatures will rise to the middle 20s. Afternoon highs will get up to around 34 degrees. Evening temperatures will be near 30 degrees.
