Cloud cover lingers Wednesday; Brighter and warmer weather arrives Thursday

High temperatures Tuesday got up to only 39 degrees in Alpena, 41 degrees in Saginaw, Michigan and 30 degrees in Marquette, Michigan. Winds out of the north-northwest continue to bring cold air into our area. Wednesday will remain cool, early-morning temperatures will begin in the lower to middle 20s.

Dry air is working into Michigan and has shut off lake effect snow from earlier in the day. A band of snow is a affecting far southern Michigan including the Detroit area, and will stay off to our south. Scattered areas of rain and snow showers over the Upper Plains (on the far left side of the map) are traveling toward the southeast, and will end up well south as well.

Light winds from the north will keep bringing chilly temperatures into Northeast Michigan through Wednesday night. Temperatures Wednesday afternoon will be near 40 degrees. Early Thursday, low temperatures will drop to the lower 20s. Then winds will shift out of the west, so we’ll lose the influence of colder air out of the north. Afternoon highs will climb to around 50 degrees Thursday. Friday, temperatures will warm to the lower 60s. A cold front will move in over the weekend, bringing some cooler temperatures.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy, cool. Early-morning lows will cool to 23 degrees. Afternoon highs will be near 40 degrees. Evening temperatures will go into the middle/lower 30s.

Thursday: Partly cloudy skies, a cool start, then getting warmer. Predawn lows will drop to about 22 degrees. Temperatures will climb to the upper 30s during the late-morning. Afternoon highs will reach close to 50 degrees. Evening temperatures will head from the middle 40s to upper 30s.

Friday: Some sun and noticeably warmer. Predawn lows will be in the lower 30s. Late-morning temperatures will rise to around 50 degrees or the lower 50s. Afternoon highs will get up to about 62 degrees. Evening temperatures cool to the 50s, and upper 40s by late.
