Absentee Ballots available for May Special Election

ALPENA, Mich. — Ballots are available for the special election in Alpena County on May 4.

Alpena City residents can now pick up an absentee ballot for this election at the clerk’s office inside city hall.

Voters will decide whether to continue paying a surcharge to fund 9–1–1 operations. Currently, residents pay $3 on each telephone line, which generates close to $1 million per year. The renewal of the surcharge would last until 2026.
