Scammers target northern Michigan resident with past due tax debt

The Michigan Department of Treasury says an aggressive scam targeting tax payers is making rounds through the U.S. Postal Service.

An Emmet County resident recently received an official–looking letter, requesting they call a toll free number to resolve their tax debt. The correspondence threatened to seize their assets including property, bank balances, and incomes. Letters do use accurate, publicly available information to trick taxpayers.
