Wintry weather returns — Snow late Thursday, biting cold to follow

Cloud cover will increase overnight and dry weather will remain until Thursday afternoon courtesy of a high pressure system over Kentucky. That high pressure system will slide to the east and give way to our next round of active weather. Snow currently extending from North Dakota to Colorado will move into our area late Thursday.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect across Northeast Michigan from 7 p.m. Thursday to 7 a.m. Friday. Total snowfall of 3 to 5 inches is expected Thursday late-day to midday Friday.

A breeze out of the south will increase to around 15 mph Thursday afternoon, and that will still keep the warm temperatures in play for Thursday with highs in the middle 30s. Friday, strong winds will pick up out of the west, close to 20 mph, and result in falling temperatures.

Thursday, highs will reach the middle 30s. Temperatures will be near 30 degrees early Friday. A blast of arctic air will follow with highs in the teens over the weekend and early next week. For a change, we’re going to get temperatures 10 to 15 degrees below normal.

Thursday: Starts cloudy, then snow arrives in the late-afternoon or early-evening. Morning temperatures will climb to the 20s. Afternoon highs will be close to 35 degrees. Evening temperatures will hover in the lower 30s.

Friday: Early snow will taper, dropping temperatures as the day goes on. Predawn temperatures will begin near 30 degrees. Temperatures will drop during the rest of the day. Afternoon temperatures will be in the lower 20s. Evening temperatures will cool to the teens.

Saturday: A chance of flurries, colder. Early-morning temperatures will begin in the lower teens. Afternoon highs will be in the upper teens. Evening temperatures will cool to the lower teens or near 10 degrees.
