Winter Storm Warnings issued for most of Northern Michigan

The National Weather Service has upgraded weather alerts in most of Northern Michigan to Winter Storm Warnings. Expect at least 6 inches of snow in most of the area placed under the Winter Storm Warning. Iosco County is placed under a Winter Weather Advisory where less snow is forecast.

Heavier snowfall intensity will arrive in the late morning Saturday and continue into the early-evening. Travel conditions will be severely impacted. Blustery winds developing Saturday afternoon could cause some patchy blowing snow as well. Winds will increase to 20 mph plus some higher gusts.

The region of heaviest snowfall has shifted north slightly. A total of 6-12 inches of snow are expected south of a line from Huron Beach to Vanderbilt to Grand Traverse Bay. However, lower amounts of snowfall are forecast in eastern Iosco County and the far southeast corner of Alcona County where a rain/snow mix will result in lower snowfall amounts.
