ALPENA, MI – The Alpena Volleyball team was in action at home on Wednesday taking on Gaylord in their Big North Conference opener.
In the first set of the night Alpena came out hot and really bade Gaylord’s night a tough one. A great spike from Laine Morgan would get the point for the Wildcats.
Alpena would take sets 1 and 2 to start off the night but Gaylord would fight back. Mallory Donakowski of Gaylord stuffs this spike attempt from the Wildcats to pick up the point.
The 3rd set was a close one with both squads making big plays. Meghan Keen would stop the ball by her fingertips and keep the ball from passing over the net and scoring for Gaylord. They would win the 3rd set of the night.
2-1 going into the 4th set and Alpena went out and made sure there wasn’t a comeback in the works for Gaylord. Here’s a lengthy rally where this great save from Allie Urlaub would be the set up Maddie Linton would need to pick up the point for Alpena.
The Wildcats would finish the night with a strong win in set 4 and beat Gaylord 3-1 on the night. Alpena will host Cadillac Wednesday at 6:30.
