ALPENA, Mich.–With everyone staying home, 2020 was the year of the binge watch. Not everyone has a streaming service, however, so we popped in at Family Video to find out what Alpena watched in 2020.
Manager Chrystal Stubl says family films were popular when the store came back from lockdown in May.
“We had Trolls: World Tour, Dolittle, Call of the Wild… Those were three that were very popular when we first reopened.”
Family titles remained a top checkout throughout the year, but horror and thriller movies were a close— and surprising— second.
A political action–horror flick, called “The Hunt” was particularly popular in September and October.
When it came to television, Alpena residents were all about the drama.
“Yellowstone is very, very popular… Handmaid’s Tale was another one. And there’s a couple Stephen King ones he did with J.J. Abrams like Castle Rock and the Outsider.”
Stubl also said she looks forward to seeing more of her regular customers return in 2021.
