Men, women, young and old all gathered together in the A-Plex yesterday morning as Besser and Lincoln Elementary thanked veterans for their selfless service and protection of our country.

Some performed songs, read poetry and created artwork to show their respect and gratitude for veterans. Others took the stand in a more serious manner, articulating just how grateful they were for the veteran’s service. One speaker quoted former vice president Adlai Stevenson, saying, “patriotism is not a short, frenzied burst of emotion, but the tranquil and steady dedication of a lifetime.” He added, “your continued support, for the men and women in uniform does not go unnoticed. I honor the veterans. And am eternally grateful.”

The turnout was impressive, as the entire room was filled wall–to–wall with students, teachers, veterans and proud families. At the end of the celebration, students surprised veterans with a moving song for their departure. As the audience rose for a standing ovation, American pride was apparent on every face.
