ALPENA, Mich.– For the past three days, people have been able to come to the school bus at the Walgreens on 32 and Bagley to donate school supplies or money to United Way’s “Stuff the Bus” campaign.
The program seeks to fill four hundred backpacks with school supplies, which will then be provided to local middle and high school students to help them have the tools for success.
Executive Director Joe Gentry says he was surprised at how well the drive went this year.
“This year’s been a little unique. More people did financial donations, dropped by and gave us checks, or called and gave donations to support the effort. And we feel confident we’ll be able to fill those 400 backpacks.”
Joe is glad that less fortunate kids will be able to have the supplies they need for success this Fall, whether they’ll be in the classroom or at home
