ALPENA, Mich. — Stuff the Bus is back which means it is time to visit school supply sections at local stores.  Each year The Salvation Army provides school supplies for kids in Alpena County.  This year Salvation Army partnered with United Way for the event.

The Salvation Army’s Major Prezza Morrison said children may feel nervous, shy or embarrassed when they lack having school supplies similar to their classmates.  She adds the importance of not leaving children out.  She also said it is important to acknowledge the challenges parents face when they have to make decisions between paying necessary bills such as rent, utilities and food over purchasing school supplies.

Stuff the Bus begins August 6 through 8.  The community has the option of dropping off supplies in boxes at Walmart or Walgreens where United Way will be taking donations.

Suggested items are 3 inch 3 ringed binders, college spiral notebooks, glue bottles, composition books, college and wide paper filler, markers, index cards, scissors, and highlighters.

Monetary donations will also be accepted by mail or in person at The Salvation Army Corps Community Center at 772 N. 2nd Avenue.  You can also donate online at www.salmich.org/alpena or phone Major Prezza Morrison at 989-358-2769.
