Thursday’s M-32 flight exercises successful

ALPENA, Mich. – Thursday’s military training exercise was a successful event, partly due to local volunteer efforts.

It was a historical event with local ties.

Six modern military aircraft, landing on a portion of M-32.

State and city first responders were excited about leaving their mark on the event.

“Very excited, said Alpena City Fire Risk Reduction Officer Andy Marceau. “Very excited to be a part of it, and the collaboration and the cooperation amongst all the entities that came together.”

The first time exercise I part of Northern Strike – an annual military training event taking place at the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center (CRTC).

Michigan State Police said it was truly planned effort for all involved.

“We’re helping with security and traffic control along with M-DOT for the road closure and our local EMS and fire departments, said Lt. Derrick Carroll.” We’ve been in the planning stages for this for several months to make sure it’s a coordinated effort between the federal, state and local level.”

Alpena City Fire’s role was a precautionary one.

“The City of Alpena Fire Department was primarily EMS,” said Marceau. “We had 10 people out here, three ambulances and command staff here to respond if heaven forbid and misfortunes happen.”

No misfortunes, just success as all six of the modern aircraft took off and landed successful.”
