Thunderstorm risk late tonight until Friday afternoon

High temperatures today spiked to 90 degrees in Alpena with sunshine and a light breeze out of the west, although temperatures were slightly cooler elsewhere. After a cluster of showers moves through later tonight and early tomorrow, we will likely get some cooler temperatures for Friday.

Rain and thunderstorms currently over Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula are moving eastward. They should weaken slightly over the next several hours, but currently they are producing gusty winds and hail with localized severe weather occurring in Wisconsin.

Low temperatures tonight will drop to about 60 degrees and the chance of rain and thunderstorms will increase after 1 a.m. The highest chances of thunderstorms will last overnight and tomorrow morning, then the chance of rain will decrease in the afternoon. Afternoon temperatures will get to the middle or upper 70s.

Any plans for going to the beach should happen late-day, when the chance of rain and storms will be lower. Afternoon temperatures at the shoreline will be close to 70 degrees along with brisk winds out of the south, although waves should remain gentle.

The chance of rain and thunderstorms will decrease late tomorrow, and some afternoon sunshine is expected.
