Temperatures return to seasonable values midweek

High temperatures today reached 33 degrees in Alpena. Temperatures will cool slightly over the next couple days. High temperatures reported in Duluth and Minneapolis were in the middle 20s, a sign of what will move into Michigan. By the middle of the week, it will feel close to ‘normal’ for the end of January.

For 22 out of 27 days so far this month, temperatures have been warmer than ‘normal.’ You’d have to go back to last week to find temperatures near normal, which most recently happened January 20. The normal high temperature for the end of January is 27 degrees. The average of all the high temperatures reached this month is running about 7 degrees above normal.

Low temperatures overnight will settle in the lower 20s with mostly cloudy skies. Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy, although limited breaks of sunshine are possible. High temperatures will be around 29 degrees and winds will come from the northwest, about 5-10 mph.

High temperatures over the next couple days will be in the upper 20s. Low temperatures will drop to the lower or middle teens early Wednesday. Less cloud cover is expected for the middle of the week, we should see more sunshine on Wednesday and highs will get to about 27 degrees. Cloud cover will increase on Thursday and high temperatures will be near 30 degrees. The next chance of snow or rain showers will arrive Saturday.
