Ted Talks Coming to Alpena

Well if you haven’t heard of TED Talks, you will soon. The Alpena Public Library will be livestreaming the TED 2017 Conference at the end of April in hopes of bringing ideas worth spreading to our community.

TED is a media organization that works to share chats with expert speakers online for free. The talks range in speakers versed in topics as diverse as education, business, science, technology and creativity. This will be the second year in a row the library has successfully applied and been accepted to live stream the conference, which means a lot considering what the chats aim to do.

“It really comes down to the crux of what TED is about, which is “ideas worth spreading.” Anytime you can bring fresh, new ideas to a community, I think it’s a really important thing. And as a library, it’s another important component of what we do here. It’s engaging community discussions, sharing ideas, and just triggering movement within the community,” says library Development Coordinator Jessica Luther.

The conference, which will take place in Vancouver, Canada will cover the broad topic of ‘The Future You.’

The library will stream three sessions that will take place on the fourth day of the conference, and those sessions will ultimately focus on human interconnectedness. Speakers will dig deep down and explore what makes people tick on the cellular level, and answer questions about what impacts behavior as humans.

You can listen in on experts talking about ideas worth sharing by coming to the Alpena County Library on Thursday April 27th. The talks run from 2 pm until 10 pm. The event is free, but since the library expects a full house registration is required. Either visit the website at www.ted.com/tedx or call 989–356–6188.
