Steep discount on kitten adoptions at Humane Society this weekend

ALPENA, Mich.– The Huron Humane Society is cutting adoption costs for the next few days.

Every year, the Bissell Pet Foundation subsidizes adoption costs for partner shelters across 33 states in an event called “Empty the Shelters.” At the Huron Humane Society, that means the adoption price for cats and kittens drops down to $25.00. The event kicked off Thursday and runs until October 4, with the Humane Society staying open on Sunday.

Cat caretaker Alyssa Myers says the annual event really gave the shelter a hand last year.

“It helps a lot, honestly. We usually adopt out around ten cats or kittens by the end of it, which doesn’t sound like a lot, but for us, it is quite a bit.”

With cats’ mating season in its final stretch, the humane society has seen an influx of kittens over the last month. There are currently over 50 kittens at the shelter, and you can learn more about them at huronhumanesocietyinc.org.
