Snow showers Wednesday and Thursday

High temperatures today reached the upper 30s to lower 40s for most of Northeast Michigan. One cold front that came through last night and introduced some cooler temperatures. A secondary cold front quickly followed behind, and affected our area today.

A round of snow showers moved through Northeast Michigan this afternoon, and has since dissipated. The next round of snow showers is currently over Minnesota and South Dakota and will travel eastbound. This will bring scattered snow showers to our area tomorrow afternoon and evening. After that, winds from the northwest will pick up on Thursday, generating lake-effect snow showers off of Lake Huron and Lake Michigan.

Overnight low temperatures will drop to the middle 20s with mostly cloudy skies. Tomorrow will probably start with dry skies in the morning. Snow showers will move in from the west, and precipitation chances will increase for the afternoon and evening. High temperatures will reach the middle 30s and winds will come from the west, about 10 mph.

An estimate of future snowfall through Friday shows the highest amounts will likely stack up west of our area. Most of the depicted snowfall will happen Wednesday and Thursday. 1-2 inches of total snowfall are expected near the shoreline. Snowfall amounts increase to about 2-4 inches for Montmorency, Oscoda and western Presque Isle counties. Areas in purple are in line to get 4-8 inches of snow.

Scattered snow showers are expected beginning tomorrow afternoon, and high temperatures will reach about 35 degrees. Temperatures will cool to 22 degrees early Thursday and some lake effect snow showers are possible throughout the day. High temperatures will reach only the lower 30s for Thursday and Friday. Friday will probably be dry with mostly cloudy skies, and Saturday will likely start with dry weather. Flurries are possible late Saturday and snow showers will become more likely on Sunday.
