Snow showers move out, chilly temperatures move in

A storm system off to our south spread light snow into Lower Michigan today. Alpena got brushed by the northern edge of the snow. Any left over snow showers are already winding down and we’ll be left with cloudy skies for the rest of the evening. Wednesday and Thursday are looking mostly cloudy and dry.

High temperatures today reached 28 degrees in Alpena. Winds out of the north-northwest on Wednesday then northwest on Thursday will bring colder air into Northeast Michigan. Notice that highs today only got up to 16 degrees in Ironwood, Michigan and 14 degrees in Duluth, Minnesota. Some of that chilly air is heading in our direction.

A colder air mass currently over the northern Plains will spill into Northern Michigan. Looking ahead to early Thursday, low temperatures will drop into the single digits. Thursday will start with chilly morning temperatures, and that’s expected to be the coldest of the week.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy, breezy with winds close to 15 mph. Predawn temperatures will drop to about 13 degrees. Afternoon highs will be near 20 degrees. Evening temperatures will go into the upper/middle teens.

Thursday: A chilly start, maybe some morning breaks of sun, otherwise mostly cloudy. Predawn lows will head down close to 9 degrees. Afternoon highs will be around 20 degrees. Evening temperatures will dip to the upper teens.

Friday: Mix of sun and clouds. Early-morning temperatures will begin around 10 degrees. Afternoon highs will be close to 20 degrees. Evening temperatures will cool to the lower teens.

Temperatures will become a few degrees warmer over the weekend with highs in the middle 20s Saturday. For the rest of Northeast Michigan’s weather forecast, watch the latest weather video by clicking the weather tab at the top of the page.
