Rev up your engines for a horse-powered club

ALPENA, Mich. (WBKB) — You have to ride a specific sports car in order to join the Sunrise Side Corvette Club. Never heard of them? That’s alright. You’ll definitely catch them coasting the streets of Alpena this summer.

Cindy Buchholz has a need for speed. Due to winter, she hasn’t sat behind the wheel of her corvette in six months. She said, “I love it.”

Cindy owns a 2015 Corvette Stingray. Her car is parked with four other corvettes in the parking lot of the Ramada. Roy Cartwright and a friend of his walked across the lot to admire the cars.

Roy said, “I think they’re really nice. I’d like to have the money to have one.”

You can’t join the Sunrise Side Corvette Club and not own a corvette. The club has been around since 2003, but Wednesday was their first meet and greet. They’re recruiting riders to joyride and snack together.

“It’s a lot of fun to go for a ride,” said Cindy. “There’s 20 cars in front of you and they’re all vettes. How awesome is that?”

Chuck Herring, president of the corvette club said, “That’s what it’s all about, to be seen and enjoy it at the same time.”
