Rainy Thursday; Colder heading into the weekend

Today’s high temperature reached 90 degrees in Alpena, one of the warmest locations in the state. Conditions remained a little drier than forecast, a lack of showers passing through and winds out of the south helped temperatures heat up. Tomorrow will mark the beginning of cooling trend.

Two cold fronts are moving toward our area. The first cold front currently moving through the Upper Peninsula and Wisconsin will weaken. The second cold front in North Dakota and South Dakota will end up being more powerful — bringing steady rainfall Thursday and colder temperatures late-week.

Overnight lows will be near 63 degrees with mostly cloudy skies. Showers will begin in the morning, and rain will become more soaking in the afternoon. Afternoon highs will reach about 76 degrees. Periods of rain will likely continue in the evening.

Rainfall amounts through Thursday night will likely end up totaling 1-1.5 inches across most of Northeast Michigan (shown in orange). The only places that could get a little less are eastern Alcona County and most of Iosco County where 0.5-1 inch is forecast (shown in green).

Thursday will be wet with highs in the middle to upper 70s. Once Thursday’s cold front moves through, humidity will drop and Friday will also be cooler. Expect clearing skies on Friday with highs near 70 degrees. Early Saturday, temperatures will cool to the 40s. Highs Saturday afternoon will only get to the lower 60s with mostly sunny skies.
