Rain this evening; Cooling temperatures and scattered snow Friday

A low pressure system centered over northern Kanasas is spreading heavy rain from Minnesota through Wisconsin and Michigan and into Ohio. This band of soaking rain will continue traveling toward Northeast Michigan. Our area will get soaking rain this evening and overnight, rainfall amounts of 0.5-0.75 inches are likely.

High temperatures as of Thursday afternoon reached 43 degrees in Alpena, 51 degrees in Saginaw, and 36 degrees in Marquette. Strong winds out of the northwest will bring colder temperatures Friday, and the cool spell will last into the weekend.

Temperatures will be in the lower 40s overnight with light winds from the south. Winds will strengthen out of the northwest tomorrow, and that shift of wind direction will cause temperatures to drop during the daytime hours Friday. Temperatures will be near 40 degrees in the morning. Afternoon temperatures will get close to 30 degrees. Then temperatures will drop into the teens late Friday night.

Winds will become more intense Friday morning. Wind speeds sustained close to 20 mph are expected throughout the day, and occasionally higher gusts will be possible. Winds will relax Friday night, and wind speeds will be about 5-10 mph on Saturday.

Morning temperatures will be close to 40 degrees and periods of rain are likely. A changeover to snow showers will take place midday as temperatures drop to around 30 degrees in the early-afternoon. Evening temperatures will be in the lower 20s and drier conditions will move in.

Temperatures will fall from the lower 40s before sunrise to around 30 degrees Friday afternoon. Rain showers will switch to scattered snow showers which are expected to end during the afternoon. Temperatures will drop to about 12 degrees early Saturday. The weekend will be much brighter, highs will be near 30 degrees Saturday and upper 30s Sunday.
