ALPENA, Mich. — In early July the Presque Isle Township Museum Society held a lighthouse photo contest and winners for both July and August have been announced.
COVID–19 placed a halt on visitors to the Presque Isle lighthouses this summer but it didn’t stop the amount of photos submitted for their contest. In July the lighthouse received 48 photos of the old lighthouse from 26 photographers and in August they received 91 from 26 photographers of the new lighthouse and the 1905 keeper’s house.
A foggy sunset photographed by Dennis Norton won 3rd place in August. Norton said the winning meant so much to him because of his family ties to the Presque Isle lighthouse.
Clint Douthitt, whose photo was titled morning light, won first place in July. Douthitt said people were asking if his photo was for sale which prompted him to do something else with it.
Douthitt has already hung his photo in his home and Norton is planning to do the same.
